Synthetic products, which track a stock\u2019s price without conferring ownership, are explicitly excluded from the exemption.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-banner leaderboard-in-article cb-deferred-ad cb-block14-wrap\">\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p><template\/><\/div>\n<p>Platforms looking to tokenize stocks also face a notification requirement. They must inform issuers at least 30 days before trading begins, and issuers retain the right to block their stock from being tokenized entirely.<\/p>\n<p>The practical implications are significant. Tokenized stock trading can operate around the clock rather than being constrained to traditional market hours, and settlement times can compress from the current T+1 standard to near-instant finality.<\/p>\n<h2>Schiff\u2019s bearish case<\/h2>\n<p>Peter Schiff didn\u2019t mince words about the market\u2019s reaction.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"6\">\n<p>\u201cYesterday\u2019s big Bitcoin rally following the SEC\u2019s tokenized stock announcement makes no sense. The news is actually bearish for Bitcoin.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>His argument follows a substitution thesis. If tokenized stocks can deliver 24\/7 trading, borderless transfers, and freedom from intermediaries while also paying dividends and conferring voting rights, Schiff contends, Bitcoin loses a chunk of its competitive advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin was trading at approximately $81,290 on September 19, reflecting a rise of about 1.6% on the day.<\/p>\n<h2>Why the market disagrees with Schiff<\/h2>\n<p>The bullish interpretation goes something like this: the SEC formally acknowledging that blockchain-based infrastructure is suitable for trading regulated securities validates the entire technological stack that underpins crypto markets.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also a composability argument. In decentralized finance, tokenized stocks could serve as collateral, be integrated into lending protocols, or be paired with stablecoins in liquidity pools.<\/p>\n<p>Tokenized securities and Bitcoin serve fundamentally different purposes. One is a regulated equity instrument that happens to live on a blockchain.
